Frederick Matthews

Board Member

Frederick Matthews moved to the upper Florida Keys in 2013 from Miami, after purchasing what was originally intended to be a weekend home in Key Largo. When a new acquaintance told him about the quality public school system here, he and his wife Carina did their research, and made the decision to move to the Keys to raise their three children. Prior to moving to the Keys, Frederick had a twenty-year career in the medical device field, working in both Fortune 100 companies and small medical device start-ups. He led sales and market development organizations in the United States, Asia-Pacific, and Latin American regions (he speaks fluent Spanish). He’s also owned and managed a small medical device distributorship, which he sold to a division of Johnson & Johnson in 2009. Frederick earned his BA from Westminster College, and MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management. Today, Frederick is pursuing his long-time interest in real estate development and sales. He is a full time, licensed real estate agent, and he holds a Florida certified residential contractor license. Frederick and Carina own Flying Fish® Real Estate, a real estate development company based in Key Largo. When not scouting for property deals and selling real estate, Frederick can be found underwater looking for spiny lobster, lionfish, and stone crabs, towing the kids behind the boat on a tube, tinkering with his old diesel pickup, and volunteering as a mentor with Take Stock in Children® at Coral Shores High School. Frederick’s three children have all attended TVM. One graduated, and is now attending Coral Shores High School, while the younger two remain enrolled at the school. Frederick serves on the TVM Board in the role of Chair of the Finance Committee, and he is active in the Facilities Committee. He encourages you to take part in your children’s education at TVM, to volunteer at the school when you can, and to attend the Board Meetings.
